Life can be overwhelming. Our schedules are full. There are never enough hours in the day. It seems the more we accomplish, the more there is to accomplish. Hectic daily schedules can lead to burnout and constantly feeling overwhelmed. Even our days off are full of commitments. We enter the new week feeling tired and unrested. Every minute of every day is allocated, and self-care is not a priority. The busier we are, the more we must be intentional about practicing self-care. One way to nurture ourselves is to take frequent breaks. Stepping away from daily demands, even for a few minutes, is a great way to recharge our batteries. There are a multitude of ways to take your break. Here are a few ideas.
Each hour, take 5 minutes to take a walk or stretch. Incorporating exercise into your schedule positively affects your mood and burns more calories than sitting in place.
Throw your phone on Do Not Disturb when you get home from work. This will allow you the opportunity to decompress without interruption.
Take a social media break. Instead of scrolling Instagram, spend some time reading or listening to your favorite album.
Gather the family around the dinner table without devices. Enjoy a meal together and play a game.
Consider booking a staycation at a local hotel and binge-watch Netflix.
Take a soothing bath and relax.
When you are overwhelmed during your day, find a quiet place to meditate, pray, or sit in silence.
As you can see, there are several easy ways to take a break. It doesn’t matter how you take your breaks. All that matters is that you take them. Prioritize your self-care!
Here’s to your health!
